September 26, 2024
The Huntington varsity boys’ golf team improved to 6-1 after overwhelming Commack at the Huntington Crescent Club this week, 8-1. The Blue Devils currently reside atop Suffolk League II.
The match completed the home-and-away series between the two teams, which saw Huntington win the first time by a 7.5-1.5 score.
This week senior Jake Severine turned in the low score of 38 while senior Chase Gadaire shot a 39 and senior William Fallon carded a 41 to lead the Blue Devil charge. Sophomore standout Jack Corcoran also contributed a strong 39, demonstrating the depth of the team.
The performance of the team’s fifth and sixth players, sophomore Will Donaghy and senior George Mueger has also been stellar. The duo has come up big in several close matches throughout the season, showcasing the strong starting lineup.
A pair of emerging talents also performed well. Sophomore Brady LaCosta and sophomore Joe Perotti topped their Commack foes in exhibition matches providing hope for continued team success in the future.
With three remaining home matches at the beautiful, yet challenging, Huntington Crescent Club course, head coach Michael Marinello remains optimistic about the Blue Devils’ chances as they gear up for the county playoffs.
“The combination of seasoned leadership and rising stars makes this year’s team a strong contender, continuing the rich tradition of excellence established over the years,” Marinello said.
Under Marinello’s guidance, the Huntington has added to its already impressive boys’ golf legacy, winning league and conference titles in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2021 and 2023. This consistent success is a testament to Marinello’s coaching philosophy and the talent within the program.
