Huntington Administrators Capture School Safety Awards

Brenden Cusack and Traci Roethel were presented with school safety awards at the annual Long Island-New York City School Safety Conference.
Mr. Cusack was recognized for his work at Huntington High School, where he served as principal for many years before being elevated to Huntington UFSD’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction last summer. Ms. Roethel was honored for her service as principal of J. Taylor Finley Middle School.
The two veteran administrators were recognized “for their commitment to school safety and their dedication to the Huntington community.”
“Mr. Cusack and Ms. Roethel keep the safety of the students and staff at the forefront of everything they do at their respective schools and work tirelessly to ensure their students are provided with a safe and secure environment to learn,” said Jarrett Stein, Huntington UFSD director of school safety and security. “Their efforts and initiatives in the Huntington schools and community is recognized across the state by the leaders in education.”
The safety conference topics included restorative justice solutions instead of suspensions, pros and cons of armed school safety, differences between school resource officers and student and community relations officers, human tracking awareness and LGBT+ education for schools and community.”
