Charlotte Cassatto helps comprise the heart and soul of Huntington High School. Widely known as “Charlie,” the junior is integrally involved in the music and athletic programs as well as a variety of after school clubs and academic organizations.
Ms. Cassatto got her start in Huntington UFSD as a Washington Primary School kindergartener. She has a sharp intellect and a great sense of humor. The teenager earns top grades and is loved by everyone.
The Huntington Blue Devil marching band just wouldn’t be the same absent Ms. Cassatto’s cheery nature. She helps keep everyone in a good mood and generally happy. Her disarming smile and kind nature wins everyone over in short order.
“I’ve always enjoyed music, but I began to love making music freshman year in Mr. [Andre] Rizzuto’s class,” Ms. Cassatto said. “His passion for music inspired me to love it, too, and I would wake up excited every day for first period band. For me, music is a way for me to express myself creatively, whether it be listening to music or creating my own. I can’t think of a day where my house doesn’t constantly have music playing. My family has always believed that music is important, so they’ve always supported me playing trumpet.”
The Blue Devil marching band is off to a great start to the competitive fall season and Ms. Cassatto and her friends are a big reason why.
“This year, I’m the brass captain and high brass section leader,” Ms. Cassatto said. “I’m so grateful for this opportunity because marching band, means a lot to me and has helped me grow as a musician and as a person.”
“I love being a student at Huntington,” Ms. Cassatto said. “It’s such a great community and there are so many programs that have allowed me to grow and make new friends. I love all of the opportunities Huntington provides to assure that its students can learn what they love most, whether it be a sport or a club.”
The teenager plans on participating in many clubs this year, including Habitat for Humanity, Key Club, Environmental Club and Interact and National History Day club as well as Tri-M Music Honor Society, Science Honor Society and English Honor Society. Ms. Cassatto is also a member of the Blue Devil fencing and softball teams in addition to performing with the marching band.
“Since I’m a junior now, I’ve started to consider college on a deeper level,” Ms. Cassatto said.” The medical field has always interested me, so in college I know I want to study biochemistry. This sets me up for the career path I plan on pursuing; pediatric dentistry.”
