Huntington School Board Discusses Goals for 2024-25

Huntington School Board members discussed five possible goals for the 2024/25 during a public meeting at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School on Monday, September 9.
The trustees annually set yearly goals. They are currently considering five specific areas of focus with a goal attached to each of the areas. The goals were read aloud for the audience at last week’s meeting and posted online with the agenda.
The Huntington School Board is led by President Xavier Palacios and Vice President Michele Kustera. Trustees include Kelly Donovan, Bill Dwyer, Thomas Galvin, Annie Michaelian and Theresa Sullivan. All seven trustees have been elected by district residents to serve three year terms. The trustees annually elected a president and vice president.
Trustees are expected to discuss the goals again at their next public meeting on Monday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. prior to voting on whether or not to approve them.
The goals includes:
1. Area of Focus: Safety
Goal: Engage in an ongoing review of best practices and research related to district and school safety measures.
2. Area of Focus: Business and Finance
Goal: Provide an educationally sound and fiscally responsible budget that supports students in achieving to their fullest potential academically, socially and emotionally.
3. Area of Focus: Student/Staff Relations
Goal: Implement and evaluate programs that support the social and emotional well-being of our students and staff to build upon interpersonal connections and create a nurturing environment throughout the district.
4. Area of Focus: Instructional Leadership
Goal: Utilize student data to develop actionable items designed to address learning gaps and promote both growth and achievement individually, while supporting staff with appropriate professional development opportunities.
5. Area of Focus: Community Engagement/Welcoming Environment
Goal: Continue to increase measures that promote comprehensive parent/guardian engagement and a welcoming environment in all district schools. Build upon our current culture of appreciation for the diverse nature of our school district community and its students through alignment of curriculum and instruction and recruiting practices.
