Junior Jolie Weinschreider Commits to Rutgers University

September 16, 2024

Jolie Weinschreider has become indispensable to the success of the Huntington Blue Devil girls’ lacrosse team and her coaches and teammates believes it’s only a matter of time before she does the same thing at Rutgers University, where she has verbally committed to play on the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse team.

“I chose Rutgers University because of the academics and athletics that the Big Ten has to offer,” Ms. Weinschreider said. “I went on an official visit last weekend and I knew it was my home. The coaches made me feel wanted and the girls on the lacrosse team made my decision so easy. Academically, they offer everything I’ve looked for in the business world, and athletically, I feel that the head coach, Melissa Lehman is building a powerhouse program for years to come.”

“Jolie is an all-around gem,” said Katie Reilly, Huntington’s varsity girls’ lacrosse head coach. “Lacrosse is her passion and anyone that knows her knows how hard she works and all the hours she has put in to make herself a better player. She has such a positive personality which makes coaching her such a pleasure, I couldn’t be happier for her on her commitment to Rutgers. She truly deserves it.”

An excellent student and an exceptional athlete and leader with three separate Blue Devil teams, Ms. Weinschreider has a way of coming through in the clutch. She gives whatever she happens to be involved with her all.

“I would love to major in business and/or psychology,” she said. Ms. Weinshreider was recruited by a variety of major universities and top college lacrosse programs before accepting a generous financial package from Rutgers.

“My time in Huntington has been amazing,” Ms. Weinschreider said. “I love the town, the people, the restaurants but most of all, I love the high school that I chose. The academics have been outstanding, my teachers have been great and my athletic career at Huntington High School has exceeded my expectations.”

With the stressful college recruiting process complete, Ms. Weinschreider has turned her full attention back to Huntington High School and the Blue Devils both this year and next.

“Academically, I would love to maintain my high standard of excellence,” she said. “Athletically, my goal is to win a Suffolk County championship for lacrosse, soccer and basketball!”
