Teacher Camille Tedeschi Enjoys Summer Travels
September 13, 2024
Teachers typically use the summer vacation to recharge their proverbial batteries, take courses and seek out experiences to improve their classroom craft. For many years, Huntington High School social studies teacher Camille Tedeschi has been traveling the world whenever she can during every stretch of time off from work.
“Traveling is exciting and I am a dedicated traveler,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “The anticipation of a trip and the thrill of exploring and meeting new people can be exhilarating. I feel that I learn the most on my journeys and it makes me a better human. Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Turkey and Croatia are the places I visited this past summer.”
Whenever she returns from some faraway land, her students and faculty colleagues are always interested in hearing about her experiences. They learn about the customs, food, people and culture of these other countries and gain an appreciation for how similar and how different countries across the world can be.
“I love the world and exploring it is my favorite activity,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “Every time I travel I learn so much about myself and my surroundings. This summer was no different. I had a variety of activities that included museums, walking tours, school visits, laying on the beach and game drives.”
Ms. Tedeschi has traveled to dozens of countries – so many that she most certainly qualifies as a travel expert. She has been leading student tours on multiple continents for many years.
“I have been traveling to the continent of Africa since 2013 and I have been fascinated ever since I first visited Southern Africa,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “I have spent time in North Africa, Southern Africa and east Africa over the years and it’s hard to pick a favorite place because they are all amazing, but I truly love Tanzania. I am drawn to Tanzania because of its people, environment and national parks. I am the happiest person when I’m there and I dream about it when I’m not there.”
She has been to many of the most popular cities in world as well as enchanted rural areas and she still has many more lands to visit.
“There is a quote by R. Elliot that states, ‘if you can only visit two continents in your lifetime, visit Africa twice.’ I find this quote to be relevant and accurate,” Ms. Tedeschi said. “I am grateful for all of my experiences and look forward to more adventures in the future.”
