Huntington School Board members hosted a 9/11 tribute during their public meeting this past Monday night. Huntington High School chamber choir members performed a pair of songs while standing on the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School stage. They were followed by a pair of trumpeters who performed “Taps.”

Trumpeters performed Taps to conclude the 9-11 tribute

With all the vocalists dressed in black, the choir performed the “Star Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.” The group, which was directed by Charles Colasanti, was comprised of Emily Barba, Liva Camarata, Kevin Dominguez, Lauren Dopico, Michaela Dopico, Rachel Huth, Emily Kustera, Walter Lopez Martinez, Dennis McCook, Mia Molina-Baptista, Sergio Portillo, Sofia Rodriguez, Jayden Roman, Alexa Schirripa , DeAndre Simmons, Samuel Soric, James Stensland, Josephine Sullivan, and Alexander Tine.

Liam LaVertu and Danna Garcia Martinez followed the vocalists on stage with their trumpets. Standing on either side of the stage, the teenagers performed a stirring rendition of Taps.

Between the two performances, Huntington School Board President Xavier Palacios addressed the crowd and asked for a moment of silence, recognizing the 3,000 innocent Americans lost in the terrorist strikes on September 11, 2001.

“The chamber choir members and trumpeters did a wonderful job paying tribute to all who lost their lives and were impacted on September 11, 2001,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said.
