Huntington Boys’ Golf Wins Opener
September 9, 2024
The Huntington boys’ golf team topped Walt Whitman in the season opener on the Town of Oyster Bay course, 9-0. The Blue Devils are coming off a 2023 campaign that saw the team reach the county semifinal playoff round.
With the graduation of three key seniors, this year’s roster is fresh and ready to make its mark. In a thrilling pre-season scrimmage at Indian Hill Country Club, the team faced off against the county favorites, Northport. In a tightly contested practice match, the Blue Devils managed to edge out their rivals by a couple of strokes.
Despite it being essentially a practice round, the performance impressed Huntington head coach Michael Marinello. “It highlights their ability to perform under pressure and to compete with some of the best in the county,” he said.
This year’s roster includes sophomores Jack Corcoran, Will Donaghy and Brady LaCosta and seniors Anthony Addeo, Will Fallon, Chase Gadaire, George Mueger, Ryan Scanlon and Jake Severine.
Fallon and Severine serve as the Blue Devil captains. “Their leadership on and off the course will be crucial as they guide the team through the challenges of the season,” Marinello said. “They both bring a wealth of experience and a strong work ethic, making them well-suited to inspire and motivate their teammates.”
Marinello is assisted by Huntington School Board approved and state licensed volunteer Robert Colvin. The two are committed to maximizing the team’s potential and ensuring it is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
The squad is surrounded by positivity. “The younger members of the team, Jack Corcoran and Will Donaghy, really put in a lot of time and effort over the off-season,” Marinello said. “Their dedication and hard work have been outstanding and it’s clear they’re ready to make a significant impact this season. With our two-time All-County captain Will Fallon and Chase Gadaire playing at a very high level, our line-up will be tough to beat.”
With a blend of experienced players, promising newcomers and a committed coaching staff, Huntington seems well-positioned to face the challenges it is sure to face this season.”
