Great Start to School Year at Jack Abrams STEM
September 6, 2024
The new school year jumped off to a smooth start at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School, where about 500 fourth, fifth and sixth graders are studying in 2024/25.
“Jack Abrams STEM has a new pledge to kick off the new year,” Principal Donna Moro said. “The pledge is focused on students setting goals and reaching for success. An interactive bulletin board is in the cafeteria where students will record their goals and periodically review progress toward their goals throughout the year.”
“At Jack Abrams, I will REACH what is expected of me to create a safe, happy and supportive school environment,” states the pledge. “I will respect myself and others; show empathy; achieve my goals; be cooperative and honest at all times. I will reach for success. It’s the JA Osprey Way.”
The acronym REACH stands for RESPECT, EMPATHY, ACHIEVE, COOPERATION and HONESTY.
“During the first few days of school, students are learning how to ‘reach’ for success and demonstrate these character traits in the various setting at school, including the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, buses, recess and even the restroom,” Ms. Moro said.
“Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School welcomes and respects all students and their families as members of the Huntington community of learners,” states an online profile. “It will prepare students for lifelong learning by developing their confidence and abilities as learners and problem-solvers. The school is committed to the use of innovative, inquiry-based, student-centered, interdisciplinary methods that embraces creativity as expressed through multiple intelligences and multiculturalism.”
STEM principles guide education at Jack Abrams School. Over the course of their education, students will become scientifically, technologically and mathematically literate. They will use scientific, technological and mathematical principles in real-life applications such as design engineering and service projects that will contribute to the community. Students will take what they know to create new ideas and products. Students celebrate and embrace diversity. They will learn to work with others respectfully and collaboratively.
