Varsity Club Officers Welcome Athletes’ Opinions

September 3, 2024

The Huntington High School Varsity Club’s executive board is comprised of athletes on every grade level that have been suggested by Blue Devil coaching staff members. The leaders welcome the opinions and feedback of all junior varsity and varsity athletes about their experience and the specific needs of their respective teams and programs.

All varsity team captains are automatically club members. The district director of health, physical education and athletics and the department coordinator of physical education and athletics serve as the organization’s faculty advisors.

The 2024/25 executive board features President Devon St. John (12), Vice President Cameron Smith (11), Secretary Shariff Penalo (11) and Treasurer Sophie Carlson (12) and administrative assistants Timothy McDonald (12), Kymora Dorvilus (11), Zayvion McCoy (10) and Kingsley Evans (9).

Executive board members oversee all fundraising activities and the allocation of those funds for team initiatives. Attendance and participation at school activities is encouraged. Activities to foster and improve sportsmanship and school spirit are provided by the club.

Every Huntington High School athlete is free to share their opinions concerning any aspect of the Blue Devil program with a Varsity Club officer or with their team captain. Those opinions will be passed on to Athletic Director Jim Hoops and department Coordinator Michael Marinello. The pair can also be reached via email at jhoops@hufsd.edu or mmarinello@hufsd.edu.

All Huntington athletes are also invited to visit the athletic office (Room 122 at the high school) and meet with Messrs. Hoops and Marinello to discuss any concerns they might have. The door is open daily. Appointments are not necessary.

A meeting of all team captains is also expected to be held at least once per sport season to hear their concerns and solicit their ideas to improve the Blue Devil athletic program. Varsity Club executive board members preside over meetings of the captains.
