October 25 , 2024
Parents of students attending private schools as well as the students themselves along with local real estate agents and other community members have been invited to attend an open house program at Huntington High School on Thursday, November 7 at 11 a.m.
Participants will be able to meet district and building administrators along with Huntington High School teachers, club advisors, coaches and students.
There will be tours through the building, including classrooms, labs, art and music rooms, the auditorium and gymnasium and cafeterias. An overview of the academic and extracurricular programs will be provided.
Community members are invited to “come and hear about all that Huntington High School has to offer.” Believed to be the oldest free public high school in New York State, Huntington High School (then known at The Union School) graduated its first class of six seniors in July 1862. The high school building at the time was located on the grounds of what is now Huntington Town Hall. Huntington High School took its name in 1897. The current building opened in November 1958.
The open house is co-sponsored by Huntington UFSD and the Huntington Council of PTAs. Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy and her administrative team along with Principal Rochelle Brown and Assistant Principals Gamal Smith and Trish Avelli will all be on hand.
Student leaders will be available to speak about their experiences and lead groups on tours around the building, pointing out highlights along the way,
Advance registration is not required, but if you have any questions, please call the Huntington High School main office at 631.673.2001. The program will begin in the School Heritage Museum, which is housed in Room 140.
