Blue Devil Band at State Championships
October 25 , 2024
The Huntington Blue Devil marching band is headed to Syracuse this weekend to compete in the New York State Field Band Conference Championships at the JMA Wireless Dome on Syracuse University campus. The band has high hopes for a top finish following an outstanding fall season.
The Blue Devils will take the field for their performance on Sunday at 11:31 a.m. Huntington is competing in the Large School 2 division against West Seneca, Corning-Painted Post, Sachem, Webster, Kingston, Orchard Park, Division Avenue and Greece.
The Blue Devils are the second to last of the nine bands in their division to perform. The Huntington band is led by director Andre Rizzuto.
The band is on a high right now after hosting its own very successful home show last Sunday and winning its division on its own field. Drum majors Sam Soric, Lily Wasoski and Dana Saramago continue to be spectacular leaders.
The three drum majors as well as the different section leaders have been pushing the band to new heights week after week. Everyone associated with the band hopes its peaks in Syracuse.
“I thought that the band show was such a success,” Mr. Soric said. “Between everyone putting their best foot forward on the turf, we also had an amazing group of parents that were a part of the Band Parent Association who helped the whole day run smoothly. But, all in all, I’m so proud of how far the band has come in just a short two months. I believe we are ready to go to the Syracuse Dome and are prepared for a very successful result.”
The band’s seniors are especially whimsical about the trip to the state championships since it will be their last.
“Everything is coming along great,” Ms. Wasoski said. “The band is really focusing and working hard during rehearsals, but we’re having so much fun. The rehearsal atmosphere is just so exciting and fun with our last competition coming up. I really think that the Huntington marching band can do great things as the JMA Wireless Dome this weekend!”
