Blue Devils Need Win for Playoffs on Senior Day

October 24 , 2024

It has come down to the final game of the regular season for the Huntington High School varsity girls’ volleyball team, which needs a victory on Senior Day on Friday night to qualify for the Section XI playoffs.

The Blue Devils will host Bellport at 6:15 p.m. in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium. Huntington is looking to qualify for the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 26 years. The Blue Devil girls’ volleyball team last reached the post-season in consecutive seasons in 1997 and 1998.

Huntington seniors Brianna Borenstein, Lauren Donaghy and Bella Morris will be honored during a pre-game ceremony. Blue Devil head coach Todd Donaghy will speak about each of the seniors as will the team’s underclassmen.

All three seniors are in the midst of strong seasons and all have tallied impressive statistics.

• Borenstein tied a school record (rally scoring era) with 32 kills against Amityville.

• Donaghy smashed the Blue Devils’ all-time assists record (rally scoring era) previously held by Shannon Kehoe (1,149) with 12 against Smithtown East last Saturday giving her a total of 1,158 in her career.

• Morris has missed only four serves in 135 attempts so far this season for .970 serving percentage.

The varsity team’s full roster features Emily Barba, Brianna Borenstein, Amelia Carino, Lauren Donaghy, Kymora Dorvilus, Madelyn Falk, Manpreet Kaur, Shannon Koepele, Mia Miller, Isabella Morris, Dakota Respass, Melanie Rodriguez, Jocelyn Thorbourne and Andreana Vlahos.

A big crowd is expected on Friday in Louis D. Giani Gym to both honor the seniors and cheer on the Blue Devils as they try to make history and reach the playoffs.
