Blue Devils Win Again at Home Show Extravaganza
October 22 , 2024
The Huntington Blue Devil marching band looked and sounded like a champion this past Sunday en route to winning first place honors at the Band Parents Association of Huntington’s biennial home show and competition at Blue Devil Stadium.
With more than 2,000 musicians, color guard members and fans on the high school campus, the music extravaganza played out under brilliant skies in what were summer like temperatures. The pageantry, music, food and camaraderie were hard to beat on this special Sunday.
“The HBDMB had a terrific weekend especially on Sunday with our biennial home show,” said Andre Rizzuto, the band’s director. “The students did an incredible job all weekend and this is the momentum we need going into championships. Our truly incredible Band Parent Association of Huntington hosted an outstanding home show. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful Band Parent Association that provides so much for our students and I thank each and every parent, volunteer and roadie that was involved! Thank you all so much!”
Huntington Superintendent Beth McCoy, Assistant Superintendent Brenden Cusack, Huntington School Board Vice President Michele Kustera, Trustee Theresa Sullivan, Director of Fine and Performing Arts Kimberly Musial and Huntington High School Principal Rochelle Brown presented awards to the competing bands, which also included Levittown Division Avenue, Roslyn, Walt Whitman, Brentwood, Copiague, Malverne and Sachem.
The band is led by drum majors Sam Soric, Lily Wasoski and Dana Saramago. The three Blue Devil veterans have been sensational leaders for the group.
“The band did an outstanding job at the home show,” Ms. Saramago said. “I couldn’t be more proud of how far we’ve come from to beginning of the season until now. But now, the only place to go is up. With our upcoming last week of practice, I can tell the entire band is itching to show off all of the incredible talent they have at Syracuse. And with the uplifting feat of coming out victorious at Huntington’s very own home show, the band is more than ready to take the [Syracuse] Dome by storm. Let’s show them what we’ve got Huntington!”
The Blue Devils are headed to the New York State Field Band Conference championships in Syracuse this coming weekend. The community is invited to watch the band’s final run through on Long Island on Thursday (October 24) evening at Blue Devil Stadium. HBDMB will compete for the state crown on Sunday.
