Blue Devils Win Again, Topping Copiague, 42-8

Junior Yasir Jones ran for 229 yards and three touchdowns and senior Timmy McDonald made 11 tackles to pace the Huntington varsity football team to its third consecutive victory as the Blue Devils topped Copiague, 42-8 this past Saturday.

Jones rushed 15 times for an average of more than 15 yards per carry and recorded eight solo tackles on defense. Huntington led 21-0 at halftime and then scored another 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to build an insurmountable advantage.

The Blue Devil amassed 460 yards of total offense, which included a 32 yard touchdown strike from Jacob Guzik to Jordan Thorbourne. Titan Elysee and Henry Gerberg also rushed for touchdowns.

Defensively, Huntington had 39 solo tackles, six tackles for a loss, 11 assisted tackles, eight pass deflections and a quarterback sack. Placekicker Robbie Campbell was a perfect six-for-six on extra points.

Will Peters made three tackles on kicks and was named the Special Teams MVP. Frank Algieri, who had seven tackles and a pass deflection garnered Defensive MVP honors. Jones was both the Offensive MVP and Huntington’s overall Team MVP.

Among the defensive standouts were Keegan Malone (five solo tackles; two assists), AJ White (six solo tackles; one assist), Elysee (five solo tackles), Thorbourne (five solo tackles), Tommy Kline (six solo tackles; one tackle for a loss; three pass deflections), Thomas Smith (eight solo tackles; two assists), Banny Soc Concua (five solo tackles) and Ethan Lawless (four solo tackles).

Twenty different Blue Devils made tackles in the game. McDonald was productive on offense, too, rushing eight times for 75 yards.

Huntington’s third consecutive win improved the Blue Devils record to 4-2. Huntington plays at Deer Park next Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
