Huntington Key Club Blood Drive Nets 51 Pints

October 18 , 2024

The Huntington High School community rallied last week for those who desperately need blood and related products by donating 51 pints of blood during a drive organized by the Key Club.

Huntington Key Club members collaborated with the New York Blood Center for the drive, which utilized the high school auditorium.

“On the behalf of the Key Club, I’d like to thank all the participants and everyone involved running in the blood drive and most importantly the New York Blood Center,” said senior Brennan Ackerman, who serves as the Key Club’s president.

Mr. Ackerman said the 51 pints that were collected will be used to save over 150 lives. “Thank you for the amazing turnout,” he added. “We hope to see both returning and new donors in April when we host our second drive of the year.”

In addition to Mr. Ackerman, the executive board also includes Avery Joynt (vice president), Emma Marsala (secretary), Nataly Posada (treasurer), Jordana Boxer (publicist), Louisa Skrobela (historian) and attendance chairs Nicholas Francis and John Joyce.

English teachers Kelly Kaiser and Gina Colica serve as the Key Club’s faculty advisors. “Key Club is a branch of Kiwanis, which is a philanthropic organization dedicated to helping children internationally,” Ms. Kaiser said. “Key Club members participate in community service projects which help build character and develop leadership skills. We are excited for a great year ahead and look forward to making a difference.”
