Huntington Girls’ Swimmers are 6-1 this Fall

The Huntington High School girls’ swimming and diving team has won six-of-seven meets this fall heading into the current week. The Blue Devils are their combined super-team partners from Walt Whitman, Harborfields and John H. Glenn are 6-1 with two regular season meets remaining.

Huntington and its collaborators have defeated Sachem East (94-81), West Islip (55-45), Lindenhurst (51-44), Brentwood/Bay Shore (94-73), Sachem North (93-81) and Northport/Commack (90-78). The only loss came at the hands of Half Hollow Hills/Kings Park (98-72).

Huntington’s swimmers and divers are coached by Christopher Helmke and Meg McConnell. The team practices at the Huntington YMCA. All meets are at away sites since neither the Blue Devils nor any of the other super-team members have their own pool.

The Huntington roster includes eighth graders Patricia Abruzzo, Riley Lewis, Lauren Reed and Helena Sullivan; freshman Campbell Proctor, sophomores Gemma Bedell, Alison Hahn, Avery Joynt, Sena Knopf and Ella Van Horn and junior Jessica Lee.

Regular season meets remain with Hauppauge/Smithtown and William Floyd. Post-season practices begin on Tuesday, October 22.

The league diving championships are set for Monday, October 28 at Hauppauge High School at 5:30 p.m. with the league swimming championships on Wednesday, October 30 also at Hauppauge at 4:30 p.m. The Section XI diving (Thursday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m.) and swimming (Sunday, November 10 at 9:30 a.m.) are at Stony Brook University. The state championships are on November 22-23 at the Webster Aquatic Center in Rochester.
