Huntington UFSD Begins Process of Updating Strategic Plan

October 9, 2024

Huntington UFSD traces its history to the day the community hired its first school teacher in 1657. The first school house was located in the Village Green area. That was 367 years ago and the district is still going strong. It’s in the process of reinventing itself as it has so many times over the decades and centuries by updating its strategic plan.

To make the process a worthwhile one, the district needs “buy-in” from all facets of the school community from faculty and staff to students and parents. Alumni, residents without school age children and business owners are invited to participate, too. Every voice needs to be heard.

The vehicle for sharing opinions and recommendations is an online platform called Thought Exchange. Participation is completely anonymous and the insights gathered will play a key role in shaping the district’s strategic planning process.

“As we continue into the year together, we are very excited to announce the launch of a process to develop our strategic plan,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “This will be a pivotal initiative that will shape the future of our district. As we begin this journey, we want to emphasize the importance of your involvement in this endeavor.”

The superintendent said the aim of the district’s updated strategic plan is “to create a roadmap that not only reflects the aspects of our school that are already working well but also addresses areas in which we can make improvements. We are committed to considering your perspectives and opinions on the direction we should take.”

Thought Exchange is now live and accessible at the following link: https://tejoin.com/scroll/520204909.

“To participate and share your valuable feedback, please enter this exchange,” Mrs. McCoy said. “The survey platform allows you to contribute your thoughts anonymously and you can also view and rate the feedback provided by other community members. We encourage an open and ongoing dialogue, so feel free to revisit the platform often and keep the conversation alive. Your feedback will be instrumental in guiding our future plans, so we urge you to make your voice heard.”

The survey will remain accessible until November 1. “We genuinely value your input in making our updated strategic plan the best it can be,” Mrs. McCoy said. “We encourage you to share your insights on what we are excelling at and where there’s room for growth. Additionally, we are eager to hear your thoughts on what we should prioritize for the future.”

One of the oldest school districts in the country is once again reinventing itself and community members with an interest in public education can help.
