Free Winter Season Sports Intramurals Underway Now

The winter season at Huntington High School begins on Monday, November 18. Sign-ups will start in about two weeks. The required interval health history form cannot be dated more than 30 days prior to the start of the season. In the meantime, a free intramural program has been organized.
Additional intramural sessions covering more sports are expected to be added soon. The following is a brief description of the intramurals that are currently available.
Free Throw Fridays
Free Throw Fridays is the newest Huntington High School boys’ basketball intramural program for those enrolled in grades 9-12. The program will run on Friday mornings from 6:45-7:15 a.m. in the high school gym. It runs through Friday, November 15.
Free Throw Fridays is open to all high school boys who are interested in basketball. Attendance at all sessions is not required. Participate when it is convenient.

Boys’ & Girls’ Fencing
Huntington UFSD students enrolled in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in boys’ and girls’ fencing intramurals. These school sponsored sessions will include general conditioning and training along with an opportunity to learn more about the sport of fencing.
If you are considering trying out for the varsity fencing program this winter, these intramurals are for you.
The program will run on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-7:00 p.m. beginning October 8 and running through Tuesday, November 5 in the gym at Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School.

Girls’ Basketball
The girls’ basketball program invites Huntington UFSD students in grades 9-12 to participate in general conditioning and training activities. The program is running through November 13 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Attendance at all sessions is not required. Students can participate when it is convenient.

Boys’ Wrestling
The fall boys’ wrestling clinic is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays through November 7 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. in the high school wrestling room. The free intramural program is open to Huntington UFSD students enrolled in grades 7-12.
The intramural wrestling program will focus on general conditioning and training with a focus on key wrestling positions, offensive hand fighting concepts, situational skills, techniques and strategies.

Boys’ Basketball
Huntington High School boys currently enrolled in grades 9-12 are invited to participate in an intramural boys basketball program. These school sponsored sessions will include general conditioning and training along with an opportunity to learn more about the sport of basketball.
The program will run Mondays from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at either Huntington High School or Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School through November 4. Attendance at all sessions is not required. Participate when it is convenient. For more information contact Coach Peter Lipka at lipkap11@gmail.com.
