Blue Devils Present Game Ball to Superintendent McCoy

October 2, 2024

The Huntington varsity football team presented a signed game ball to Superintendent Beth McCoy early Tuesday morning to commemorate her first Homecoming Day victory on the gridiron. The Blue Devils upset visiting North Babylon on Saturday for the first time in 31 years, 25-23.

A delegation of football captains, including seniors Thomas Smith, Keegan Malone and Timothy McDonald joined Huntington head coach Ron Wilson in the superintendent’s office on Tuesday morning. The group carried with it a football signed by all the players and coaches.

Mrs. McCoy and the players chatted amiably about their college plans and mutual love of football. The superintendent said her husband coaches football and her two sons both play the sport and televisions are tuned to football in her house most days.

Last Saturday, Mrs. McCoy stood on the track between the bleachers and the playing field at Blue Devil Stadium from the opening kickoff to the final exciting play. She cheered the players right along with the crowd. Her family joined her and they all took delight in watching the thrilling game.

Mrs. McCoy attended the team’s Friday night pre-game winner a week ago, mingling with parents coaches and players and wishing the Blue Devils well.

“Our players are really grateful to all of our fans and the support the entire community gives to us,” Wilson said. “Since this was Mrs. McCoy’s first Homecoming Day as our superintendent and this is her first homecoming football victory, all of us wanted to her to have the game ball so she will always remember this moment in time.”
