District Strategic Plan Update Initiative Continues
November 27, 2024
The initiative to update Huntington UFSD’s strategic plan continued this week when more than 50 staff, faculty, parents and school related organization representatives met to review the feedback provided by the community, refine the district’s vision, mission and core values and begin setting the stage for the priorities that will be included in the HUFSD’s Strategic Plan.
Each building principal and central office administration shared a brief presentation about what they are doing well, their points of pride, what they are currently working on or considering and their “hopes and dreams.”
“This provided the group with an overview of each building; the programs and services provided to students and provided all an opportunity for all to ask questions and/or get clarification,” Superintendent Beth McCoy said. “Then, we took this information into consideration as we worked together to develop goals and strategies for each of the four focus areas based on the feedback from the community survey.”
The four focus areas, including three sub categories for each area are:
Academic Excellence
• Rigor and Programs
• Skills Development
• Effective Use of Technology
The Student Experience
• Activities and Opportunities
• Hands-on experience
• Mental health supports
Operations
• Safety and security
• Food service
• Resource allocation/class size
Family and Community Engagement
• Parent Involvement
• Communication
• Transportation
“We worked in groups to develop goals and strategies in each of the four priority areas” Mrs. McCoy said. “Our administrative team will continue this work as we establish timelines and personnel responsible for the work in each area and hope to have a draft plan in the coming months.”
This week’s session stretched from 4:00-8:00 p.m. “I would like to thank the many groups that participated in this community planning day, including central office staff, principals, directors, chairpersons, assistant principals, teachers, parent volunteers, security, food service workers, aides, teaching assistants, clerical staff, nurses, custodians, community organizations, and, of course, our Board of Education,” Mrs. McCoy said.
An online survey was open to the community for several months. It drew 795 participants, 564 thoughts and 21,991 ratings.
“As we look ahead, we know there is important work to do, but with such an incredible team and community, we are confident in the path forward,” Mrs. McCoy said.
