Blue Devils Win New York State Scholar Honors

November 22, 2024

All 11 fall season varsity athletic teams at Huntington High School have captured the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Award based on the grade point averages of respective team members.

Huntington’s varsity boys’ soccer, girls’ soccer, boys’ cross country, girls’ cross country, girls’ volleyball, girls’ gymnastics, girls’ tennis, girls’ swimming and diving, field hockey, football and boys’ golf teams were all recognized as State Scholar Athlete Award honorees.

A total of 122 individual fall season Blue Devil athletes with academic grade averages of 90.00 or higher were recognized.

To receive team recognition, the team’s average GPA for 75 percent of the roster must be equal to or greater than 90.00. Higher athlete GPAs can be used offset lower ones. However, only students with a 90 or above receive scholar athlete pins, even if a student with a lower GPA was used in the calculation. (Only high school student-athletes are eligible. Seventh and eighth graders participating on varsity teams are not included in the program.)
