The Dispatch Prints 60th Year’s First Issue

The first issue of the 60th year of Huntington High School’s student newspaper is now in print. The Dispatch’s fall issue is available for free.
The newspaper’s staff includes Isabella Careccia-Johnson (editor in chief), Ryan Ramirez (senior sports editor), Rachel Huth and Katie Sorto Cabrera (senior layout editors), Julia Goodwin (junior layout editor), Owen Stevens and Emma Marsala (junior editors), Louisa Skrobela (club secretary), Isabella Palacios (club treasurer) and Sofia Van Arsdale (PR coordinator).
Contributing staff members include Giovanna Lanfranco, Brianna Borenstein, Rafaella Gregorio, Emily Kustera, Emma Marsala, Eva Richter, Jake Chiclacos, Emiliano Colman, Logan Apelsinov, Marilyn Mendoza Virula, Alexandra Boeckmann, Anthony Retamal Vidal, Aylin Martinez Ramirez, Chloe Donovan, Katherine Gordon, Isabella Morris, Charles Stanforth, Olivia Lee, Nataly Posada, Kiley Barch, Mia Einemann, Martin Rodriguez and Lindsay Depeine.
Teachers Aimee Antorino and Kristina Morell serve as the newspaper club’s faculty advisors.
“The Dispatch’s goal is to provide readers with interesting content in a wide variety of areas,” according to a statement found on page two of the paper. “Such areas include the news coverage of school and community events, as well as features on relevant topics. In addition, The Dispatch will provide opinionated editorials on controversial topics, as well as provide previews and reviews for upcoming school and professional sports and other forms of entertainment.”
Stories in the new issue include a front page profile and interview of new high school Principal Rochelle C. Brown, coverage of the “historic” Homecoming Day football game, an advice column, articles on the marching band’s season, the high school’s new mobile phone policy, the fall drama club production of “Kodachrome,” homecoming floats and the parade, the presidential election and how climate change could be affecting natural disasters and hurricanes, art and culture, including movies and books, the homecoming bonfire and festival, effect of musical genres on the brain, Premier League, New York Knicks, profiles of new assistant principal Trish Avelli and security guard Dave Taylor, “Beyond the Classroom: The Life of Mrs. Lorenzana,” the transition of Brenden Cusack from principal to assistant superintendent, “Get to Know Superintendent Beth McCoy” and a variety of puzzles.
