Blue Devil Co-ed Bowling Ready to Roll

November 13, 2024

The Huntington High School bowling team is set for its fourth season after being re-established following a nearly three decade absence. A new coach has been named to lead the Blue Devils into battle this winter.

Both boys and girls are eligible to play on the team. Since Huntington doesn’t have separate boys and girls teams, everyone is welcome to join the one team. Students can sign-up now in the high school nurse’s office.

Huntington High School English teacher Dianna Cazzolino has been named the team’s head coach. The Blue Devils will once again be decked out in gorgeous blue polo shirts. The team’s home base is Larkfield Lanes in East Northport, which it shares with teams from Northport and Harborfields high schools.

Huntington’s new coach is an accomplished bowler, having rolled sanctioned 300 games and an 800 series. “I actively bowl now, with my composite average being a 216,” Mrs. Cazzalino said. After a spectacular high school career, she was recruited to bowl in college.

Mrs. Cazzalino captained Adelphi’s women’s bowling in both 2008/09 and 2009/10 and was co-captain in 2007/08. She won national Academic All-American honors and was named NEC All-Conference and NEC Bowler of the Week.

The new Blue Devil coach obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees at Adelphi University. Mrs. Cazzalino graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Dean’s List. While in college, she engage in an internship at the Long Island Fund for Women and Girls, performing demographic research and organizing fundraising materials. She volunteered at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.

Ms. Cazzolino was a participant in the first NCAA Student-Athlete Coaching Forum in May 2009. Huntington athletic department officials said they are confident she will develop the Blue Devil team into a county power and provide students with an outstanding experience.

Ms. Cazzalino is also the faculty advisor for Et Cetera, the high school’s student literary and art magazine.

The 2024/25 schedule has the varsity bowling team playing 16 home and away matches against Hauppauge, Smithtown, Northport, Central Islip, Islip, Commack, Harborfields and East Islip. Most of the matches will be held at Larkfield Lanes since that is also the home site of Northport and Harborfields.

The team will begin practicing on Monday, November 18. Practices will run from 3-5 p.m.

Athletes who want to play on the Blue Devil bowling team should sign-up in the nurse’s office now. Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse prior to each sport season.

A parent consent form for athletes (English/Spanish) (click for link) should be handed to the coach prior to practicing.

School nurse Linda Amarante can be reached at 631.673.2146 or lamarante@hufsd.edu.

Mrs. Cazzolino has been talking up the sport to build interest. Any student in grades 9-12 is eligible. Interested? Send a message to Mr. Walsh at dcazzolino@hufsd.edu.
