Huntington’s Blue Market & Bluetique Thrives

November 12, 2024

Introducing Huntington High School’s Blue Market & Bluetique. The initiative is a community-driven effort to provide essential resources to students, helping ensure they have the support they need to succeed in school.

Huntington High School's Blue Market and Bluetique initiative is off to a great start.

The Blue Market (food pantry) & Bluetique (clothing and other personal items) was established to support Huntington High School families facing food insecurity and other needs. It’s goal is to collect and distribute supplies, food and clothing to create a free, robust resource for the district.

The pantry and closet are run by students, with organization and stocking handled by student volunteers, teachers and support staff. Various student groups (i.e. student government, Interact club) host food drives to maintain the pantry’s stock.

Local organizations, including the Junior Welfare League, Suffolk Police and the Tri-CYA have contributed to the success of these initiatives making significant donations to keep the Blue Market pantry stocked. A generous amount of clothing and shoes have been donated by Denise Glozek at The Consignment Shop. Organizers say they look forward to partnering with Food Rescue US in the near future.

Bluetique, the clothing and items closet, recently had its grand opening, serving over 100 students who shopped for free clothing and necessities. The program has been steadily helping students since its launch last spring. Those interested should look for announcements concerning future shopping opportunities.

Huntington UFSD is committed to addressing community challenges, recognizing how these impact students' ability to succeed in school. Moving forward, QR codes will be posted around the high school to allow students to discreetly request food from The Blue Market.

More Bluetique giveaway events are planned to further assist students in need.

“This initiative is a great example of a community-driven effort to provide essential resources for students, helping ensure they have the support they need to succeed in school,” Assistant Principal Patricia Avelli said.

Students are encouraged to visit Room 117 in the high school with any questions.
