Southdown Honors October’s Student Stars
November 7 , 2024
Southdown Primary School presented awards to its top students during the month of October. It’s not easy selecting a relatively small group of youngsters in a school filled talented and hardworking students. But the latest Stars of the Month are truly just that; stars.
Southdown has produced a long list of students who have gone on to great things in the world, including standout performances at Huntington High School. It’s still doing exactly that. The school has a dedicated corps of teachers who work with an energetic student body and are supported by committed parents.
The honorees include:
Universal pre-kindergarten: Allison Grijalva Franco, Jordi Melendez Argueta
Kindergarten: Harper Pacifico, Emily Felico, Emmy Schwarz
First grade: Carlos Alfaro Gonzalez, Sofia Mejia Santos, Oliver Bransford, Yolanda Lopez Rosales
Second grade: Haris Qasim, Jessia Avila Mendoza, Yamileth Peraza Sibrian, Sofia Ni Bhroin McNamee
Third grade: Oscar Gonzalez Robles, Brianna Uzho, Carly Ventura, Javier Giron Contreras
Southdown Principal Jill Amott-Erwig expressed pride in the work and efforts put forth by each of the award recipients. Teachers nominated the youngsters for the special honor.
Southdown opened in September 1954 on the same day as its sister schools; Flower Hill and Washington. It was situated in the northwest corner of the district. At the time, Woodbury Avenue Elementary School occupied the southwest quadrant. Woodbury would later close and that area would be served by Jefferson Elementary School.
