Blue Devil Varsity Club Discusses Athletic Program

A contingent of Huntington High School Varsity Club members met early Saturday morning in the athletic office to tackle a long agenda.
The organization’s 2024/25 executive board features President Devon St. John (12), Vice President Cameron Smith (11), Secretary Shariff Penalo (11) and Treasurer Sophie Carlson (12) and administrative assistants Timothy McDonald (12), Kymora Dorvilus (11), Zayvion McCoy (10) and Kingsley Evans (9).
Executive board members oversee all fundraising activities and the allocation of those funds for team initiatives. Attendance and participation at school activities is encouraged. Activities to foster and improve sportsmanship and school spirit are provided by the club.
Every Huntington High School athlete is free to share their opinions concerning any aspect of the Blue Devil program with a Varsity Club officer or with their team captain.
Saturday morning’s meeting consisted of reviewing numerous discussion items, including the status of the lights on Alumni Field; the possibility of a capital project to construct a new fieldhouse with bathrooms and a concession area; installation of a sound system on Alumni Field; possibility of adding two new teams; the future of JV field hockey; dual participation-participating in two sports during the same season; sixth grade participation in interscholastic sports; possible improvements to the player experience.
A preview of the winter season was also provided along with an overview of the fundraising accounts and possible team fundriasing
All Huntington athletes are also invited to visit the athletic office (Room 122 at the high school) and meet with Messrs. Hoops and Marinello to discuss any concerns they might have. The door is open daily. Appointments are not necessary.
