Huntington PE Students Capture Suffolk Zone Awards

Ten Huntington UFSD elementary and middle school grade level students were recognized with coveted Student Leadership Awards at Bay Shore High School earlier this week by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance.

The honorees included J. Taylor Finley Middle School eighth graders Violet Palacios, Charles Rosselli, Isabella Rodriguez and Andrew Guandique; Woodhull Intermediate School sixth graders Joxhiel (Joe) Rodriguez, Charlotte Kindelmann, Lyla Crowley and Jaydon Hernandez Suazo; and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School sixth graders Matteo Dasaro and Juliette Creegan.

The Huntington students have been working with Finley teachers Marissa Bergmann, Jordan Ioviero and Travis Smith; Woodhull teachers Carrie Postel and Eric Triolo and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School teachers Elizabeth Andersen and John Walsh.

The top elementary and middle school physical education students across Suffolk were honored in the Bay Shore gym. The award is given for outstanding leadership, fitness, citizenship and excellence in health and physical education.

Recipients of the awards demonstrated the skills, knowledge and competencies to achieve and maintain a health enhancing lifestyle. The honorees exhibited responsibility for their personal and social behavior that respects self and others.

“These students recognize the value of physical, social and emotional health as it pertains to overall wellness,” Suffolk Zone President Lori Hewlett said.
