Blue Devil Lax Teams Win Season Openers

The Huntington boys’ and girls’ varsity lacrosse teams both captured season opening victories in non-league games this week. The Blue Devil girls rolled past visiting Farmingdale, 14-5 while the Huntington boys topped visiting Port Washington, 13-8.
Playing on the new Alumni Field turf, the Huntington girls’ team jumped out to an 8-1 first half lead. Despite three players being sidelined for various reasons, the Blue Devils looked sharp, going on to outscore Farmingdale in the second half, 6-4.
Huntington senior Kayleigh Bender tallied four goals and two assists to pace the Blue Devils. Sabrina Boyle and Grace Gordon scored three goals each. Devon St. John notched a pair of goals and assisted on another.
Bridget Callery had a goal and an assist and Jenna Italiano also scored for Huntington. Mia Johnson assisted on a pair of goals. Goalie Andie DiGioia stopped six shots in the cage.
The Huntington boys’ team battled Port Washington on the Blue Devil Stadium turf. The closely fought game saw the home team take a 3-1 first period lead and hold on for a 5-3 halftime advantage. Six goals by Huntington in the third frame put the Blue Devils solidly in the lead.
Senior Dan McNulty notched three goals and two assists and Tom Girimonti and Tim McDonald both added two goals and two assists. Colin Lennon found the back of the net three times. Brian Hrybenko, Thomas Smith and Luca Cuozzo all scored in the game. Tommy Kline picked up two assists. Will Fallon made 11 saves in goal for Huntington.
