Huntington Drama Club Presents Chicago Teen Edition

March 21, 2024

The Huntington High School drama club will stage a production of the musical “Chicago Teen Edition” on Friday (March 22) at 7 p.m. and Saturday (March 23) at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.

“Every year it’s the same question; why did you pick the show that is being performed this year?” said Michael Schwendenmann, the Huntington drama club faculty advisor. “‘Chicago’ seemed like a no brainer. In this day and age of undeserved celebrity, fake news and media manipulation we are treated to a satirical look at each one of these ideas looking through the lens of the merry murderesses Velma and Roxie, and their attorney Billy Flynn, who is clever, unscrupulous and able to bend people and the media to his will. At times touching, at times funny, and at times maddening we bear witness to humanity being told what to think instead of thinking for themselves. ‘Chicago’ reminds us that we are subject to hearing only one side of a story and if repeated long enough and loud enough we might believe it. It’s up to us to decide for ourselves what has merit and what does not instead of falling prey to those who would like us to bend to their will. Don’t give in to the old razzle dazzle, except for tonight, of course. Enjoy the show!”

The show’s cast includes Deveren Flynn, Layna Abraham, Josephine Sullivan, Maggie O’Toole, Ariana James, Kayla Murillo, Jake Amend, Sofia Rodriguez, Samantha Koepele, Sena Kopf, Zaida Correal, Sam Soric, Michael Mendikyan, Mia Molina, Walter Lopez, Michaela Dopico, Emily Kustera, Alexandra Boeckmann, Kyra Scott, Landry Flynn, Alexa Schirripa, Liva Camarata, James Stensland, Jack Semelsberger, Lily Wasoski, Izzy Cruz Ponce, Lily Tierney, Will Berry, Michelle Mejia, Alex Tine, DeAndre Simmons, Izzy Gregorio and Mason Gomez.
