It’s a Bilingual Celebration at Jack Abrams STEM
March 19, 2024
The Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School community never tires of celebrating the success of students so creating something special for a group of 112 bilingual learners spread across grades four, five and six was a labor of love for Principal Donna Moro and her faculty and staff members.
The youngsters were brought together to recognize their performance on the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test. The boys and girls learned about the various levels of achievement on the test, including the designation of “Commanding,” at which point the State Education Department considers a student to be bilingual.
“It was an incredibly moving experience for our students,” Ms. Moro said. “Their smiling faces were filled with pride as they were acknowledged with a certificate for moving up a level on the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test. It was a motivating event and students left eager to achieve state bilingual status by reaching the commanding level of proficiency on the NYSESLAT.”
Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School students and teachers are working hard this year to master every aspect of their classroom education. Ms. Moro expect many more “big things” from the youngsters before the year closes in late June.
