Featured Weekly Scholarships for Huntington Seniors

Huntington High School seniors are encouraged to apply for one or more of this week’s featured scholarships and awards. Tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships are available this year.

Scholarship descriptions and application details are listed below. Everyone in the Class of 2024 is invited to apply.

This week’s featured scholarship opportunities include:

14th annual Claire Friedlander Upstander Awards of $5,000 are available to middle and high school students who stand up for others and do not allow bigotry, hatred, or intolerance. Interested students must submit an application with a 500- word essay on what makes him/her/them an upstander using the essay prompt: “I have demonstrated the actions of an upstander by…”. Application form, essay, and teacher nomination letter must be emailed to edu@holocaust-nassau.org. Interested students can click here for more information. Deadline is April 8.

The Student-View Scholar Program is offering thirteen scholarships between $500 to $5,000 to high school seniors who log onto http://www.student- view.com/ScholarshipWmap.html and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. No essay, SAT/ACT scores or fees required. Deadline is April 23.

The Actuarial Foundation and several other organizations are teaming up to offer high school seniors and current college students who identify as Black, Middle Eastern, Latine, Native North American, or Pacific Islander, and plan to study the actuarial profession, scholarships of up to $20,000. Interested students can learn more and apply by visiting https://theactuarialfoundation.submittable.com/submit. The deadline is March 31

Adventureland’s Helping Hands Foundation is now accepting applications for the Vivian &Tony Gentile Scholarship and the Sachem Dental Group Endowment Scholarship. Students must be seniors who plan to attend a Long Island college or university full-time in the fall. Students applying to the Sachem Dental Group Endowment must pursue a degree in the medical/health/ or science fields. Four $2,500 scholarships will be awarded. Students should log

The Association of Suffolk Supervisors for Education Technology (ASSET) is offering (at least) $2,000 scholarships to deserving students who will be entering into higher education and studying fields that integrate technology. Interested students must visit here for a digital application. The application deadline is March 27.

The Barbara C. Harris Scholar’s Program provides financial support of up to $5,000 to Black, African American and Caribbean students interested in attending community college, four-year college or university, trade, or vocational school. Interested students can apply at https://www.dioceseli.org/reparations. Deadline is April 30.

BP Community Scholarship Program is available to seniors who are planning to attend a two or four-year college and can demonstrate financial need. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $3.7 million and over 2,200 scholarships benefiting promising students. Interested students are invited to apply online at www.bpscholarships.com. Scholarship applications must be submitted online by March 22.

The Dreams for Youth Scholarship Program provides financial support so Long Island youth can pursue their dreams and aspirations. Their academic scholarship ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 is available to seniors and assists with costs at a college, university, private or vocational school. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a commitment to community service. Interested students must apply at http://www.unitedwayli.org/dreamsforyouth. Deadline is April 28.

Friends of the Huntington Public Library has two $750 scholarships available for all 2024 high school seniors that live within the Huntington School District. One to be awarded to a senior matriculating in a 2-year or 4-year college and the other to a senior attending a vocational program. Applicants must live within the Huntington School District, be Huntington Public Library card holders, and will be a 2024 graduate. The application should include a letter of recommendation, college acceptance letter and an essay on how visiting and using the Huntington Public Library impacted you as a reader, student and/or in your pursuit of personal interests. Applications are available here. Deadline is May 15.

Friends of OHEKA Otto Kahn Awards in Music Performing Arts and Fine Awards are available for seniors within the Town of Huntington who are planning to enter college or specialized training in one of the three areas above. A questionnaire, two teacher letters of recommendations, samples of work (CD, DVD, or photos) and a headshot photo is required. Applications are available here. Deadline is March 28.

The Huntington’s Lions Club will award a $5,000 scholarship, payable in installments. The award will be based on financial need, service to the community and school, academic accomplishments and acceptance to an accredited academic institution. A copy of the Financial Aid Form, SAT scores and a letter of recommendation must be included. Applications are available here and are due to Ms. Diana Bonilla in Guidance West. Deadline is April 18.

The Huntington Marine Corps is offering two scholarships of up to $2,000 to qualifying students who are related to a former marine. Candidates must plan on attending a college/university upon graduation and submit an essay. Interested student can click here for more information. Deadline is May 1.

Island Federal Credit Union will award eleven high school seniors scholarships of $2,500 - $10,000. Interested student should visit https://www.islandfcu.org/Island- Scholarship.aspx for more information. Deadline is April 19.

Jovia’s Family Scholarship is a $3,000 scholarship awarded to high school seniors. Eligible seniors must have a 90 GPA or above, complete an essay, provide proof of 50 community service hours, participate in 3 extracurricular activities and/or sports, and be a Jovia member. Interested students should visit https://www.jovia.org/learn/scholarships/family- scholarship-application to apply. Family Scholarship applicants will be eligible to apply for Jovia’s Premier Scholarship which awards one $50,000 scholarship paid out over four years. Deadline is May 1.

The Julie Peierls Scholarship sponsored by Theatre Three in the amount of $1,000, will be presented to a Long Island senior planning to pursue a career in professional theatre, as well as pursue theatrical education at a college as a musical theatre major or at a conservatory. Completed application, audition, and interview are required. Applications are available at https://theatrethree.com/julie-peierls-scholarship/. Deadline is June 1.
