January 26, 2024

The Huntington boys’ basketball team won back-to-back for the first time this season, defeating both West Babylon and Bellport on the road. The Blue Devils play again tonight when they take the court at home in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium against Centereach at 6:45 p.m.

Seniors Dillanger Albert, Harrison Baliber, Jayson Colato, Thomas Girimonti, Daniel McNulty, Eli Soric and Gradon Sosnowski will all be recognized during a pre-game ceremony at which head coach Peter Lipka will speak.

Huntington junior and spectacular vocalist Liva Camarata will sing the national anthem. Youth basketball players from the district will play a 10 minute game at halftime. The team will hold a post-game party for players and parents in the cafeteria.

The Blue Devils are going for their third straight victory on Friday night. Against West Babylon, Huntington opened a 19-13 first quarter lead and went ahead 36-27 by halftime. The team came out of the locker room on fire and went on an 18-9 third quarter run to effectively put the game away. While the final horn sounded, Huntington topped the home team, 68-50.

Jordan Thorbourne led all scorers on both teams with 19 points. Thomas Girimonti had 17 points and Eli Soric added 13 points. Harry Baliber scored seven points and Justin D’Eloia and Gradon Sosnowski both dropped four points. Jayson Colato and Dan McNulty had two points each.

At Bellport on Tuesday night, Huntington again led early, jumping out to a 13-12 first quarter advantage before opening up in the second frame with a 22-8 run for a 35-20 lead. The Clippers staged a third quarter rally to cut their deficit to six. The two teams combined for 45 points in the final eight minutes with the Blue Devils hanging on for a 69-62 victory.

Girimonti led Huntington with 17 points. Thorbourne scored another big night with 16 points and Baliber dropped 14 points. McNulty and Soric both scored in double figures, too, with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Friday night’s game will be livestreamed on the Huntington Lou Giani Gym YouTube channel.
