Richard Rouse Appointed Director of Facilities

Huntington School Board members have appointed Richard W. Rouse as director of facilities, effective February 5. Trustees took the action during a public meeting this past Monday night at the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Rouse had been employed as the Longwood Central School District’s director of facilities. He earlier served for eight years as Longwood’s assistant plant facilities administrator. He is proficient in numerous software packages.

Mr. Rouse obtained an associate in science degree at SUNY Farmingdale in May 1983. He holds an assortment of certifications and licenses covering plumbing, underground storage tanks, asbestos handling and removal and pneumatics, steam boilers and grounds maintenance.

Mr. Rouse began his career in the Elwood School District where he worked as a maintenance mechanic for nine years and a maintenance supervisor for 19 months before serving as assistant plant facilities administrator for five years.

The facilities department operates out of an office located on the lower level of Huntington High School. The department is responsible for caring for all eight buildings in the district and the grounds that surround them.

Allan Wakefield has been serving as interim director of facilities since last summer.
