Math Honor Society Inducts 53 New Members

Huntington High School’s chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, the national Math Honor Society inducted 53 new members during a Thursday night ceremony before a crowd of parents and school officials in the auditorium.
The ceremony marked the 27th annual induction since the founding of Huntington’s Nathan Hale chapter of Mu Alpha Theta.
To be eligible for membership in the society students must be enrolled in a math class higher than Algebra 2 (such as pre-Calculus, Calculus, AP Calculus, Introduction to Statistics, AP Statistics) and have a minimum unweighted grade average of 85 in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra 2.
The organization is led by an executive board consisting of Benjamin Edgar-McNerney (president), Katherine Estrada (vice president), Eli Soric (secretary), Jessica Maixner (treasurer) and Angel Villatoro (tutoring coordinator). Teachers Monica Racz and Jordan Swierkowski are the faculty advisors.
The new inductees include Brennen Ackerman, Kaylee Adams, Anthony Addeo, Ashley Alay, Joseph Boeckmann, Brianna Borenstein, Jupiter Brown, Isabella Careccia-Johnson, Luca Cuozzo, Ada Cruz Gutierrez, Charlotte Curtin, Lauren Donaghy, William Fallon, Stephen Connor Fox, Charles Fuller, Chase Gadaire, Vincenza Garofalo, Kimberly Granados Moreira, Rafaella Gregorio, Dylan Heller, John Joyce IV, Griffin Kanzer, Emily Kustera, James Larson, Colin Lennon and Antonio Leotta.
The Math Honor Society’s newest members also include Caitlin Maher Dubnau, Damaris Mani-Munoz, Tess Markotsis, Caroline McGreevy, George Mueger, Ethan Naima, Maggie O’Toole, Nicholas Plachta, Dylan Proctor, Anthony Retamal-Vidal, Carlos Reyes-Sorto, Aine Rimkunas, Gricelle Rojas, Kai Rotunno, Brayan Santos, Ryan Scanlon, Alexa Schirripa, Jayden Schneider, Abby Schueller, Thomas Smith, Benjamin Soric, Josephine Sullivan, Harrison Uvena, Jennifer Vallejo and James Vohs.
Huntington alum and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School student support advisor Katie Reilly was the night’s guest speaker. After graduating in 2016 she went on to earn an undergraduate degree at Princeton University and a master’s degree at Stony Brook University. Department Director Teresa Grossane also addressed the crowd.
The evening wrapped up with a small reception in the main lobby outside the auditorium.
