Grandfriends Visits Sunrise Assisted Living for Caroling

December 20, 2024

Huntington High School Grandfriends club members visited Sunrise Assisted Living in South Huntington for some old-fashioned caroling and to spread holiday cheer.

“The holidays were celebrated with super special sweet treats, lots of sing-a-long caroling and an added surprise concert led by two of our Huntington High School symphony orchestra quartets,” said Suzi Biagi, who serves as the club’s faculty advisor along with Lauren Blackburn.

Residents were thrilled to have the teenagers visit. “ It really was a very special celebration” a resident said. The senior citizens were completely mesmerized by the students and their talents.

“The children are so special and many of us don’t get to see our grandchildren or great grandchildren often,” another resident said. “We have truly grown to love these kids.”

With holiday sweaters, headbands and jingle bells galore, the sweet sounds of dozens of people of all ages could be heard throughout the residence singing the popular tunes.

“The residence is at near capacity and along with 37 students attending you could barely find your way around the café,” Ms. Biagi said. The joyous gathering is a definite favorite for the clubs two advisors,

“The event is more than just a seasonal activity, it's a celebration of joy, hope and love” Ms. Blackburn said.

Grandfriends club members will head back to Sunrise in March for a St. Patrick’s Day tea. They will return again in May for the annual senior, senior prom.
