Huntington Students Celebrate National French Week

December 3, 2024

The 22nd annual celebration of National French Week and all things French was a fun time for all at Huntington High School. The French Honor Society took the lead in developing activities consistent with this year’s theme: Le Francais – La Langue Globale (French – The Global Language).

A main lobby display promoted National French Week.

On Day No. 1, French Honor Society members set up camp in the main lobby, kicking off the celebration of French language and culture in the school community. The organization began the morning with its P'tit Dej (French breakfast) bake sale, complete with croissants, pains au chocolat, brioches, madeleines, macarons, caramels au beurre salé, et Lindt chocolates.

French Honor Society members also hosted a French cheese tasting event where they served baguettes with Brie, Gruyère, Boursin cheese and Chèvre cheese topped with virgin olive oil and Herbes de Provence. Participants were also served sparkling cider to clean their palates.

The next day, the French Honor Society served the same fare to students in every French class at the high school.

Another day saw French Honor Society members perform their Diversité poem in the Blue Devil Stadium bleacher, maintaining an annual tradition that began many years ago.

“The celebration of National French Week ended with a special ‘Slam’ poetry event where the Advanced French classes exchanged ideas via ZOOM with a Slam francophone artist from Canada and then learned about French in the Americas since the event was sponsored by Le Centre de la Francophonie des Amériques,” French teacher Gina-Marie Molvaut said. “The video broadcasting class did a great job documenting some of these events for the Blue Devil Broadcast.”
