Huntington UFSD Schools Open on Tuesday, September 3

Superintendent Beth McCoy’s enthusiasm is contagious as 4,200 enthusiastic Huntington UFSD students are ready to start classes on Tuesday, September 3. Facilities staff members will continue last minute preparations throughout the Labor Day weekend, but everything is on schedule for a smooth opening.

“Welcome back to another exciting school year,” said Mrs. McCoy in a message to the school community through the Parent Square platform. “As we gear up for what promises to be a fantastic year of learning and growth, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude and enthusiasm for the journey ahead.”

All eight schools within Huntington UFSD are fully staffed and well equipped for students on every grade level. Supplies have been flowing in daily for the past eight weeks and boxes have been delivered to teacher’s classrooms.

“Over the past few months, our dedicated team has been hard at work preparing our buildings and grounds to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inspiring environment for all our students,” Mrs. McCoy said. “We’ve also spent considerable time reviewing data to better understand the needs of our students and tailor our instructional strategies to help every child succeed.”

Administrators, teachers and support staff members met on Wednesday and Thursday for training and meetings along with time to prepare classrooms. Students made last minute schedule changes at Huntington High School.

“Our teachers have been busy preparing their classrooms, creating spaces where creativity and curiosity can thrive and attending professional development sessions to prepare for the year ahead,” Mrs. McCoy said. “We’ve also welcomed new members to our teaching staff, who have undergone extensive professional development to ensure they are fully equipped to meet the high standards of excellence we uphold in our district.”

Huntington UFSD’s administrative corps is also refreshed and ready for the new school year, with new faces in several positions.

“Our leadership team recently participated in two days of administrative workshops, focusing on the latest educational practices and strategies to enhance student achievement, ensure that student and staff safety continues to be a top priority and that our district practices and procedures set staff and students up for success,” Mrs. McCoy said. “These workshops have energized us with new ideas and tools that we are eager to implement in our schools.”

Huntington UFSD traces its heritage to February 11, 1657 when the community came together to hire the first public school teacher, who set up a schoolhouse in the area of today’s Village Green.

“As we embark on this new school year, I am filled with optimism and excitement about the opportunities that lie ahead,” Mrs. McCoy said. “Together, we will continue to build a strong, supportive, and successful school community. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our schools. Let’s make this year our best one yet!”
