New World Club Presents Scholarships

Huntington High School’s New World Club presented 15 scholarships to graduating seniors during a ceremony in the school auditorium.
New World Club members serve as mentors for English as a new language students new to Huntington High School. “In this collaborative group, students assist other students as they become increasingly attuned to a new way of life and schooling system,” according to a club profile. “Newcomers are paired with current students who help to guide and mentor their peers.”
Science teacher Marlo Romero presented the scholarships and spoke about the important work performed by the club. The organization’s members are energetic and particularly enthusiastic about their mission.
New World Club mentee scholarships were presented to Emelyn Merida Cifuentes (Suffolk Community College) and Franklin Pacheco Arce (Suffolk Community College).
New World Club mentor scholarships were presented to Genesis Acevedo (New York University), Sonia Acevedo Ortiz (Hofstra University), Helen Ayala Castro (Suffolk Community College), Stephanie Guillen-Flores (Spartanburg Community College), Cristel Hernandez Reyes (LIU Post), Andrea Mani-Munoz (CUNY Queens College), Damaris Mani-Munoz (SUNY College at Geneseo), Jannel Marroquin (Providence College) , Alber Olivia Gomez (Suffolk Community College), Anderson Ortiz Quintanilla (Farmingdale State College), Kimberly Panameno (St. Joseph’s University-LI campus), Lucas Spagnoletti (University of Pennsylvania) and Yosary Turcios (SUNY Old Westbury).
