K-Factor Talent Show Set for Friday, May 17

April 29, 2024

The Huntington High School Key Club is busy organizing its annual K-Factor Talent Show. The big event is set for Friday, May 17 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door for $10.

Staged by the high school’s Key Club chapter and supported by folks of all ages across the community, the event showcases dozens of talented performers and raises funds to benefit kids fighting cancer at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and their families. The year marks the 13th edition of the annual show.

K-Factor draws its name from Huntington High School alum and former Key Club member Kaila Harlan. A member of the Class of 2009, she was diagnosed with leukemia while attending college. Her alma mater organized the first show to help raise money to cover expenses related to her treatment. She passed away on August 29, 2013 at the age of 22.

This year’s show is once again dedicated to Rachel Antorino, the daughter of Huntington High School English teacher Aimee Antorino. Rachel lost her battle with leukemia in August 2018 when she was only 14 years old. In her memory, Ms. Antorino created the foundation, Rachel’s Dance for the Cure to help relieve the financial burden placed on families of pediatric cancer patients.

A member of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club chapters exist in thousands of high schools across the country. Huntington’s chapter was established decades ago and has thrived over the years.

This year’s Key Club officers include Charlotte Gordon (president), Jack Ruthkowski (vice president), Samantha Koepele (historian), Brooke Parks (secretary), Giovanna Lanfranco (treasurer), Jaipreet Singh (chief financial assistant) and attendance officers Marianna Diaz, Nicolas Francis and John Joyce were all involved in the drive in one way or another. Gina Colica and Kelly Kaiser serve as the faculty advisors.
