Registration Continues for SCOPE Summer Enrichment

April 19, 2024

This just might be the best SCOPE summer music, art and STEAM program yet. Dozens of Huntington UFSD students have already registered for one or more classes. The program will run from Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 26.

The program represents a collaboration between Huntington UFSD and SCOPE. It’s co-directed by Huntington music teachers Jenna Merget and Nicole Lynch. Students are being offered 27 courses in all this summer.

Huntington High School students act as counselors in the program, which has traditionally been popular with the community. The program is for students entering first through ninth grades. It will be held at Huntington High School. Fees are set at $139 per class in Session I July 1-12) and $149 per class in Session II (July 15-26) with a 10 percent sibling discount. The two separate sessions allow students to enroll in additional classes within the program

Participants may choose to register for up to three periods of classes per session. Periods are 75 minutes in length and run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Space is limited. Courses are filled in the order in which registrations are received.

Registration is now open through www.scopeonline.us. Click on the link for “Summer and School Year Enrichment 2023-24” and then on “Huntington Enrichment.” The registration and refund deadline is June 1, 2024.

“We will be running the same classic courses with new and innovative course titles,” Mrs. Merget said. “Our two-week registration provides families with the flexibility to be a part of our program.”

Descriptions for the two Musical Theater camps are as follows:

Broadway Bonanza for students entering grades 2-9

Love to sing, dance and act? This is the program for you! Students will spend four weeks preparing to put on a musical! Auditions for roles will take place during week one and students must be available for the entire four-week program. Students will work on a Broadway Junior show and put on a full production. Get ready to sing and dance your way to Broadway!

Musical Theater Workshop (Two Week Session) for students entering grades 2-9

Acting is a great tool to build confidence, self-esteem and poise. In this course, actors play games, learn how to walk, talk and listen on stage. Improvisation, small scenes and monologues will be explored. Students will learn songs and scenes from a Broadway show. We will be singing and acting in this creative class as we prepare for a small performance on our last day! All students are encouraged to sign up for this course regardless of acting/singing experience. Bring your most fun and creative personalities to the stage and be ready to have lots of fun!

Organizers believe the month long program will be well-received by participants. All classes will be offered at Huntington High School.
