The J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ lacrosse team is hot after winning its first two games against Northport and Brentwood West earlier this week.
Coached by Finley teachers Hildi Stanford and Greg Dieterich, the team’s roster totals nearly 40 players. Finley topped Northport, 22-4 on Monday and then cruised past Brentwood West the next day, 19-2.
The team consists of players Mea Andrea, Abigail Arelt, Campbell Arthur, Emma Barch, Grace Bartasi, Zoe Chiclacos, Olivia Corcoran, Victoria Creegan, Claire Dello-Iacono, Francesca D’Eloia, Leah Edwards, Violetta Fox, Shea Gilroy, Norah Golden, Gracie Griffith, Cassidy Harris, Julia Hotine, Matison Kindelmann, Tallulah Koepele, Charlotte Krause, Riley Lewis, Keira Lynch, Luisa Mackey, Emma Martin, Shelby Meystrik, Violet Palacios, Gianna Parides, Campbell Proctor, Brianna Purcell, Darcy Rimkunas, Gianna Skrobela, Annabel Stein, Abigail Uvena, Katherine Van Horn, Alexa Wasoski, Milania Watelier, Caitlin Wegielnik and Lia Zivkovic.
Gilroy, Harris and Wasoski are Finley’s captains. The team has outscored its first two opponents by a 41-6 margin.
The team practices on a field adjacent to the building and plays its home games on a separate fenced in field with bleachers and a scoreboard. The field was renovated two years ago with sod grass and a sprinkler system installed.
“We are on the path for a strong season,” Coach Stanford said. “The seventh graders have added a good amount of talent to the squad. The goals have been evenly distributed around the team, a testament to the depth this team has. They are a hardworking and talented group of girls. We are excited to see the where the rest of the season takes us.”
