Young Blue Devil Flag Football Team Plays Hard

April 16, 2024

The Huntington High School girls’ varsity flag football team has a splendid group of athletes spread across grades 9-12. The Blue Devils are working hard. The team has experienced several close games this spring.

The Blue Devils are coached by Huntington physical education teacher and alum Shea Scully and Brentwood science teacher Gabby Valela.

The roster consists of Genesis Araujo, Alisa Arvelo, Zaida Correal, Ariana Corvoisier, Kymora Dorvilus, Eshmal Fatima, Mariela Guandique Velasquez, Ariana James, Fernanda Jandres Rivera, Madeline Jimenez Guevara, Saniah Lewis, Ashley Moreno Garcia, Taylor Nappi, Aylana Powell, Andrea Reyes, Faith Robertson, Asly Santos, Kelly Saravia Guadique, Fergie Sierra Ortega, Kaylee Smalling, Belinda Velasquez, Eillen Villarreal, Gabriela Vilorio and Ariana Zavala Nunez.

The Blue Devils are in the midst of playing a 10 game schedule that includes contests with Center Moriches, North Babylon, Connetquot, Northport, Eastport-South Manor, Commack, West Islip, Deer Park, Lindenhurst and West Babylon.

Some Huntington players are multi-sport athletes while many others only play on the Blue Devil flag football team There is a significant amount of interest in the sport at J. Taylor Finley Middle School, too. Enough so that plans are afoot to add flag football intramurals at Finley next year.

Only three players on the current varsity roster are seniors. With nearly the entire team eligible to return to the field next spring, Scully is hopeful Huntington flag football will turn the corner in its quest to be one of Suffolk’s top teams.
