Local Organizations Offer Seniors Scholarship Opportunities

Huntington High School’s Class of 2024 is in the midst of winning millions of dollars in scholarships and financial awards from colleges and universities from coast to coast.
Huntington seniors are also invited to apply for numerous scholarships available from local organizations in the community as well as in the greater Suffolk and Nassau areas.
Below is a list of select scholarship opportunities offered by some of these local organizations. In the description of the scholarship there is a hotlink that brings students directly to the application. Deadlines are listed for each of the scholarships.
Huntington seniors are encouraged to apply for as many of these scholarships as possible.
The Chi RHO Chapter Achievement Scholarship of $1,000 is being awarded to any African American/Latino high school male senior who will be attending an accredited college in the upcoming year (Summer/Fall 2024). The scholarship amount should help the student with their tuition, textbooks, room & board or any other important financial factor to help toward the start of their college education. The Donald A. Pius Scholarship is available for the Town of Huntington seniors in pursuit of their college and/or vocational trade education. Five $2,000 scholarships are available. Criteria includes: financial need, academic performance, community service, family responsibility, and/or extracurricular activities. Applications are available here. Deadline is May 3.
Friends of the Huntington Public Library has two $750 scholarships available for all 2024 high school seniors that live within the Huntington School District. One to be awarded to a senior matriculating in a 2-year or 4-year college and the other to a senior attending a vocational program. Applicants must live within the Huntington School District, be Huntington Public Library card holders and will be a 2024 graduate. Application should include a letter of recommendation, acceptance letter and an essay on how visiting and using the Huntington Public Library impacted you as a reader, student, and/or in your pursuit of personal interests. The Greenlawn Fire Department awards three scholarships of $1,000 to graduating seniors who live within the Greenlawn Fire District and have “given something back” to their school. Applications are available here and are due to Ms. Dianna Bonilla in Guidance West. Deadline is May 1.
The Huntington Lions Club will award a $5,000 scholarship, payable in installments. The award will be based on financial need, service to the community and school, academic accomplishments, and acceptance to an accredited academic institution. A copy of the Financial Aid Form, SAT scores, and a letter of recommendation must be included. Applications are available here and are due to Ms. Dianna Bonilla in Guidance West. Deadline is April 18.
The Huntington Marine Corps chapter is offering two scholarships of up to $2,000 to qualifying students who are related to a former marine. Candidates must plan on attending a college/university upon graduation and submit an essay. Interested student can click here for more information. Deadline is May 1.
The Moonjumpers scholarship program is offering a Huntington High School student a scholarship of $1,000. This scholarship is offered to college/trade school-bound high school seniors based on demonstrated academic standing (GPA of 75-85), financial need, and contributions to the community. The Long Island chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women will offer four scholarships of $500 each to worthy female high school seniors of African descent from Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Applicants must have demonstrated excellent academic achievement (80 average), good citizenship, and participation in school and/or community activities. Applications are here. Deadline is April 30.
The Sons of Italy’s Perry Como Lodge will award two $1,000 scholarships to seniors of Italian-American ancestry who will enroll in a four-year college or university in the fall. Students must be able to attend the annual scholarship awards night on June 8. A transcript, two letters of recommendation, list of activities, and essay are required. The Robin Hopkins Amper Environmental Scholarship is available to Nassau and Suffolk County residents who are committed to the environment. Graduating high school seniors pursuing undergraduate degrees in environmental studies and sciences, biology, ecology, sustainability, public policy, and land and water protection are eligible to apply for the $5,000 scholarship. Students may attend any accredited college in the U.S. Interested students should click here for an application. Deadline is July 19.
The Tri-Community & Youth Agency is once again sponsoring the Joseph Martone Scholarship in the amount of $500 for one Huntington High senior based on character, achievement, community service, sports and/or extracurricular activities.
