The Huntington boys’ lacrosse team turned in an inspired performance on Saturday afternoon, coming from behind to topple visiting Cold Spring Harbor before a big crowd at Alumni Field, 10-5.

Tom Girimonti and Brian Hrybenko each tallied three goals and one assist and Colin Lennon had a goal and four assists to pace the Blue Devils. Tommy Kline added a goal and two assists and Dan McNulty and Timmy McDonald both scored goals. Will Fallon recorded 11 saves in the cage for Huntington.

“I think what made the difference today was our ability to keep our composure when things didn’t go our way, as well as playing as a unit,” McNulty said. “Facing a talented rival school like Cold Spring Harbor definitely came with adversity, but as a unit we battled through and played our game, ultimately allowing us to come out with the victory.”

Cold Spring Harbor struck early, scoring two of the game’s first three goals to grab a 2-1 first period lead before Huntington began to dominate on a cold and windy and sometimes rainy day.

The Blue Devils headed into halftime with a 4-3 advantage before going on to outscore the visitors in the second half, 6-2.

Although the annual game is a non-league contest between the two rivals, the players and coaches could have fooled the crowd into believing the teams were playing for a championship with the level of intensity displayed on the field.

“It was really about us,” Girimonti said. “If all of our guys play together and share the ball, I feel like that’s all it takes and that is what we did today.”

Huntington head coach Julian Watts had his team playing hard to the final whistle. “Cold Spring Harbor has many great players,” Watts said. “And you can never let your guard down against Dennis Bonn, who is one of New York’s best coaches. Dennis always has his team ready to play and today was no different I’m proud of our guys. They played with intensity.”
