Free Fencing Intramural Program Offered

April 11, 2024

J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School students currently enrolled in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in a free intramural boys’ and girls’ fencing program this spring.

These free school sponsored sessions will include general conditioning and training along with an opportunity to learn more about the sport of fencing. If you are thinking about trying out for the Blue Devil team next winter, this intramural program is for you.

Novices are welcome to participate in the program. No experience is necessary. Those interested in giving the sport “a go” can do so on any Tuesday evening. Equipment will be provided.

Intramurals will run on Tuesday evenings from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gymnasium beginning April 23 and running through June 18.

Attendance at all sessions is not required. Bring a water bottle and come dressed to physically condition and fence. Sweatpants are fine, but no shorts, please. Lace-up sneakers are recommended

For more information (or any questions), please e-mail Coach Michelle O’Brien at mich_obrien@optimum.net or Coach Vin O’Garra at vco17@live.com.

Introducing the sport to newcomers in a relaxed atmosphere is one of the goals of this free intramural program. The Blue Devils expect to field outstanding boys’ and girls’ teams next winter and compete for league and county titles.
