Huntington’s String Fiesta 2024 Reaches Back to 1980s

Huntington UFSD’s String Fiesta drew a crowd of students who love music and the instruments they play to the Huntington High School auditorium last weekend. The event has experienced student-musicians mentoring and assisting their younger counterparts.
Teachers Christina Bhasin, Nicole Castaldo, James DiMeglio, Arielle Harvey and Nicole Lynch organized, coordinated and ran the event with help from vocal teachers Josephine Greco and Susan Graber.
“String Fiesta is a district wide string event that welcomes string players from grades four and up ranging from beginners to talented SCMEA (Suffolk County Music Educators Assn.) and LISFA (Long Island String Festival Assn.) participants,” Ms. Lynch said.
This year’s theme was music from the ‘80s. Students and staff members showed up in full ‘80’s gear and spent the day rehearsing and singing ‘80’s karaoke and even had a photo booth to give them some mementos to remember the “rad” day.
Students learned three pieces from the ‘80s and performed a free concert for family and friends.
“Special thanks to Mallory Travers for helping out with the photo booth,” Ms. Lynch said. “Students and staff had a great day and put on a great performance.”
String teachers and students alike look forward to this day because it provides an opportunity for all of the district’s string players to come together to learn fun music and perform as one enormous string ensemble for a concert.
The day began at 9 a.m. with the concert kicking off at 1:30 p.m. Everyone was on their way home by 2 p.m. “It was quite a day,” one participant said.
