Finley Art Students Chosen for Exhibit

April 8, 2024

Five studio art students at J. Taylor Finley Middle School were chosen to exhibit their respective pieces at the Suffolk County Art Leaders Association Annual Children’s Show at the Old Babylon Town Hall on West Main Street.

The show honored “excellent artistic achievement” from districts across the county. Artwork covering grades kindergarten through eighth grade was on exhibit. A weekend reception was held for families and the artists where the artwork was displayed and the hard work and talent of the students was celebrated.

The Finley artists included Tulsi Singh, Jonathan Sevilla Munguia, Sabino Gomez Morales, Evolet Herrera Moreira and Valerie Alfaro.

“I am very proud of the hard work these students have put forth,” Ms. Morea said. “It’s nice to see their work on display for all the enjoy.”

Karen Morea began her career at Huntington in 2006. She has taught elementary art at Washington, Jefferson and Southdown primary schools and Huntington Intermediate School, which was later closed and reopened as Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School. She later moved to J. Taylor Finley Middle School, where she has taught seventh and eighth grade art classes.

A graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset, Ms. Morea obtained her undergraduate degree at SUNY Geneseo with a focus on studio art. She earned a Master’s in Art Education degree at Long Island University-CW Post.

Ms. Morea is continually striving to learn more about new art techniques and ideas.
