The Blue Devils are starting to settle into a rhythm. They still have a long way to go. That comes as little surprise considering how young Huntington’s lineup is since the roster is dominated by underclassmen.

At Riverhead, Huntington jumped out to a 12-3 first half lead. Callery (5 goals, 3 assists), Weinschreider (6g) and Bender (12g, 3a) were all unstoppable and the defense held firm, with great play by Reese Rinaldi, Kyra Larsen, Ava McDonald and Izzy Palacios.

Sabrina Boyle (10g, 2a) scored two goals and had an assist and Grace Gordon (6g, 1a) also notched a pair of goals. Jenna Italiano (2g, 1a) had a goal and an assist and Leighton Evans (1g) and Devon St. John (3g, 2a) also scored in the game. Ella Granito (1a) had an assist.

Andie DiGioia and Juliet Johnson took turns in goal for the Blue Devils with each playing one half and combining on the win.

Earlier in the week, Huntington came close to toppling state power Northport, rallying to take a 7-6 halftime lead to throw a scare into the Tigers, who eventually prevailed, 11-9. .

Northport opened a quick 3-0 before Huntington rallied. The Tigers rebounded to outplay the Blue Devils in the second half. Boyle tallied four goals and an assist and Weinschreider had three goals. Bender scored a goal and added an assist. Callery also scored. Johnson and DiGioia combined to make 12 saves.

“I think we still have a lot of work to do and we are still finding our chemistry with so many new girls, but it’s looking good so far,” St. John said. “We played amazing against Northport.”

Huntington has upcoming games against Ward Melville, Half Hollow Hills, Commack, North Babylon and William Floyd.

“I think we are definitely working very hard and it is paying off,” Rinaldi said.
