Ruby Meidenman Strikes Out 17 in Back-to-Back Games

April 2, 2024

Senior Ruby Meidenman hurled back-to-back 17 strikeout performances to help the Huntington varsity softball team win two of its first three games.

Meidenman fanned 17 batters in an 8-4 win over Bellport while helping her own cause at the plate with a base hit, run batted in and a run scored. Huntington teammate Kate Barba went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Adriana Abbatiello also had a hit and an RBI and scored a run.

Eighth grade catcher Karina Rodriguez also made a splash, not only handling Meidenman’s blazing fastball, but also smacking a pair of hits that drove in two runs. Isabella Holland also scored a run and Jocelyn Thorbourne had an RBI.

Two days later, Meidenman threw another gem, this time shutting out Centereach, 2-0. Meidenman surrendered only three hits while fanning 17 batters a second time this season.

Barba, Holland, Meidenman, Rodriguez, Mia Molina, Amanda Ganley and Gemma Bedell all collected hits in the game. Emily Barba and Meidenman both drove in runs and Holland stole a base and scored a run. Rodriguez also scored a run in the game.

The Blue Devil roster also includes Keysy Diaz Campos, Yliana Hernandez-Perla, Jessica Maixner and Krisanny Rondon. Huntington is coached by John Walsh and Eric Mininni.
